ACT
General
Information on the ACT
The
ACT is another test that students who wish to apply
for admission into a university in the United States
can take in addition to the SAT. It is usually taken
by high school students in their 10th, 11th or 12th
grades. Local students in the upper secondary as well
as junior college levels may also take this test.
The
ACT is becoming increasingly popular as a college entrance
test among high school students as it is widely acceptable
by US universities as being equivalent to the SAT.
Together, 4 tests make up the ACT. These are English,
Mathematics, Reading Comprehension and Science. All 4
tests are given and taken in one sitting. All questions
on the test are Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs). There
is also a Writing test where students need to write an
essay in 30 minutes.
The
duration of the test is 3 hours and 25 minutes. The breakdown
of the time for each test is given below:

Course
Description
This
course is most suitable for 11th and 12th graders who
have already taken our SAT 1 prep course. The ACT is widely
accepted by US universities as equivalent to the SAT.
The
ACT has four sections: English, Mathematics, Reading and
Science. Students who are more math and science oriented
should consider taking the ACT. Our ACT course is structured
as an add-on to our SAT class.
Building
on the foundation of grammar points, reading skills and
math topics covered in the SAT course, we teach the students
what works for the ACT and how it is different from the
SAT.
Students
are also given an explanation of the skills needed for
the Science component of the test. In particular, we teach
the students how to answer the different types of questions
on the test, such as conflicting viewpoints, data representation
and research summaries. As the essay test is significantly
different from the SAT essay, we will also be teaching
the students how to prepare and write the ACT essay. Students
will receive sufficient practice in all areas during the
course and for homework.
The
class size is between 3 to 16 students.
