SSAT
General Information on the SSAT
The SSAT stands for "Secondary School Admission Test.
It is a required examination for students who wish to
pursue secondary school education in an independent school
in America. If you are considering sending your child
to the USA or his/her secondary (i.e., middle/high school)
education, the SSAT is required.
The SSAT is a multiple choice test comprising
verbal, quantitative (math) and reading comprehension sections.
In addition to these, the test also includes an essay writing
portion which requires the student to write his/her responses
to a topic statement. The writing portion is not graded
but it will be sent together with the SSAT test score to
the schools that you specify.
The SSAT is designed for students in grades
5 to 11 (i.e., ages 11 to 17). There are twol levels of
the test - Upper Level (grades 8 to 11), and Lower Level

Description
If you plan to take the SSAT soon,
you may wish to consider taking a preparation course to
help you achieve your maximum potential score. Our SSAT
course is suitable for students in Singapore who are planning
to pursue their secondary school education in America. As
the SSAT test is an American test, certain terminologies,
test format as well as test psychology may be unfamiliar
to local school students. Our course will prepare students
fully for these nuances while strengthening the student's
overall vocabulary, reading, writing and mathematical skills.
As most students in Singapore face greater problems in the
Verbal and Reading Comprehension sections of the SSAT, our
course is geared more towards strengthening the students'
abilities in these areas while not compromising their mathematical
abilities as the Quantitative sections of the test can be
tricky at times as well.
The Studyworks SSAT course is offered on a
part-time basis. Students are required to attend classes
twice a week for at least 1 hour each time. For best results,
students are encouraged to set aside at least another 20
to 25 hours outside of class to self-study and review the
lessons learned in class.
There are 2 full-length practice tests that
will be given at the beginning, the middle and at the end
of the course. At the end of the course, students should
be able to demonstrate increased abilities to answer difficult
vocabulary questions, understand moderate to complex reading
passages as well as be able to write an essay of substantial
quality. Students should also be conversant in answering
the different types of questions in the quantitative section
(math) of the test.
